Sexy?

Yup. Everyone's tastes are different. I almost got the Colt Python when I bought my Beretta some years ago. But the 92 seemed lighter and held more rounds than the revolver.

I did pick up a .38 Special revolver later on so it's all good.

Nope not a Molina. I learned all that when I came into posetion of it. My Brother in law passed away and this was one of 3 hand guns he owned. I had never heard of a Colt 1911 Argentine Gov. model. When I opened the case I thought “what the heck did he buy?”. After several hours of research I realized he knew what he was doing.

Wish I had it back. Isn’t that the most common lament of all gun owners? lol

If you have the S/N then I guess you're good to go.

I wasn't aware of the 1933 Colt contract, but I've seen lots of "Argentina 1911s" on gun forums that were really Ballester Molinas.

Externally, they do look very much like a 1911A1.

Will the slabs be collectible? Time will tell.

I can just hear old guys saying that about the Colt 1911 a hundred years ago.

I doubt that all the "slabs" will become collectible, but some certainly will. Time will tell which ones make the cut.

Immediately recognizable because of the pin directly above the trigger (which, as you noted, allows the trigger to "pivot", and does away with the original "bow" design of JMB) and the vertical lines in the grips.

Quite a few collectors were taken in by the B-M's, placing a worth on them as a "Colt", which they are NOT.

The Arg Police pistols ARE Colts, made in Hartford in 1933.

Rumors abound, as you know, if you are even peripherally involved in collecting, that Colt dismantled their 1911 manufacturing dies and machinery and shipped it all to Argentina, etc, all of which are patent BS.

As best as I can find out, Colt licensed several patented "parts" to Ballester Molina, and quite a few near-Colts were made by them, using dies and equipment furnished by Colt.

I have an interest in the 1933 Colts simply because of the peculiarity of them.

Unfortunately, they are now being counterfeited, which serves no good economic advantage to the counterfeiters, as it is very evident.

No collector is interested in a supposed 1933 Colt that has been carded and buffed, then re-blued, or one with a "close" S/N that has been poorly roll-marked.

I can spot them a mile away.

In fact, I saw one last weekend at a local gun show here in NE Alabama.

A legal gun, just not a "correct" gun, particularly not for the $2000.00 price tag the idiot had on it.

And then he tries to tell me that he has a Provenance Letter from Colt, in that HIS gun was one of two issued to the Chief of Police.

I know my loud laughter probably pissed him off, but these damn fools keep on trying.

Sorry for the long-windedness, but I'm one of them 1911 nuts, and once we get started, it's hard for us to stop.

Never saw one I didn't love, including the "genuine" Chief of Police Arg I just described.

On a gun range, finger off the trigger is drilled into me. But the few times I’ve pulled a gun in anticipation of needing it for self defense, I find my finger wanders to the trigger. From what I’ve read, a lot of cops (not me, never been a cop) have the same reaction.

Prior to joining the military, my shooting was done with either single action revolvers or a J-frame 22LR that probably has a 20 lb DA trigger pull. To this day (40+ years later), it is instinctive to me to cock the hammer when raising a DA revolver to eye level. I suspect what guns one starts with influences one greatly unless one then shoots a LOT with a different gun. And SA revolvers remain my favorite for shooting fun.

“Time will tell.”

I’ve never heard of anyone buying one because it was pretty.

Not once.

However, I’m certain no less than 10,000 S&W Model 586 were sold for that very reason.

BTW - I shot a Beretta 92 a lot in the military. I own a 92 compact and wish I could carry it concealed. I found it very nice for shooting even though I have small hands. Alas, on me at least, in Arizona...concealing a 92 ain’t happening!

You have excellent taste: Browning's Hi-power is a treasure.

I did finally find a good P210 and it's everything they say it is - beautifully fitted, the slide moves back smoothly and almost frictionlessly, and it has an incredibly precise trigger - and I am getting one-hole groups at 25 yards.

It's unlike anything else.

"Try an 1851 Navy or an 1860 Army. It has been downhill since then for good looks."

I'm with you - I have two original 1860 Colts and have just sold a pristine 1851 Second Model.

I also have at least 8 replicas, half of them are the new-made Colts.

Even though it's ugly, I have my eye out for a replica Paterson..

The Navy is my most reliable pistol. Treso nipples with CCI #11 caps. I went 650 shots with no misfires. A few jams from fired cap detritus between the cylinder and frame but that is it.

I love that revolver.

if it comes down to it, that DA pull will be an emergency... and you'll have all the adrenaline you need and won't even notice it
