The average snowfall is 12-13 inches annually for the area. We got hit with 20 inches since 11 pm Wednesday. The good news is Prescott and Prescott Valley were well prepared so the streets are in good shape.

Arizona needs all the water it can get, my brother lives in Mesa and was a weather forecaster in the Air Force and hates now but he knows when it melts you replenish the aquifers.

All of southeast Arizona is covered in snow. Even Tucson.
Cochise County schools closed Thursday and Friday.
I have to get out tomorrow and praying for no ice on the roads.

Just rain here in Phoenix. Kind of drearier and colder than I expected from my first winter in Phoenix. Puts a damper on Cactus League baseball.

This is great for Arizona’s lakes and rivers. Even the lower desert areas are going to be covered in green come spring.

I watched that storm going south and it made a U-Turn right at Baja and then headed northeast right up through Arizona then onto Utah and Colorado etc.

Wait until the monsoons hit during the summer.

Flagstaff got nailed with almost 3’ in 24 hours. Set a new record for them. Eventually all that snow melts and flows into the ground and rivers to lakes and reservoirs. This was the biggest snowfall in 87 years for parts of AZ. Shirts are being made saying something like “Survivor Feb. 2019 Snowmageddon”

Hmmph. Been working on my wife to think about Prescott to move to a more 2A friendly state. We both hate cold, but if this is an aberration................

Keep telling her I am too old to take to the hills if the liberals here enact any confiscation schemes, so think hard about bailing out.

It’s an certainly an aberration at this point. That area is known to get winter dusting and maybe a foot or so a year of snow. This was a really big snowfall and most of those folks are not used to seeing that there except maybe once or so in a lifetime. Btw, if I were to bail out that would be high on my list as well. No doubt about it.

This snowstorm was a once in every 50 year storm. It does get cold here during winter, averages 40-60 degrees. Then it averages 65-95 degrees the rest of the year.

The Prescott area is probably the most friendly 2A area in the country. There are 15 independent gun stores for a population of 115,000 people and that doesn’t include three Walmarts, two Big 5, Cal Ranch Stores, and Sportsmans Warehouse in the area.

I lived in Prescott in the 1980’s and we had at least 2 snow storms of 24 inches, because there was over 2 feet of snow on my car in the ERAU parking lot in 1986 (my ‘71 Cuda) and 1987 (my ‘86 Mustang 5.0). The Humidity is too low for snow to stick around and it was all gone within 3 days.

Just got a text from my sons who left to go javalina hunting yesterday... They are camped in the desert at 3600’ elevation just north of Lake Pleasant and woke up with a foot of snow on the ground this morning...

Payson is nice too, about 1000’ lower in elevation...
My SIL lives there and she only got about 6” by this morning...
Although they were completely snowed in today, all roads in and out were closed.

Thanks for the info.

Have a former co-worker lives in Prescott, and family south in the Tucson area.

Appeals to me, but wife is against another move after bailing out of California.

If I had to bail out, would look to buying a townhouse to ship me and toys to. She could follow whenever.

We actually like the Prescott Valley area. Prescott is really nice too but it’s like another 500’ elevation and lots of ups and downs as Prescott is hilly. When ice does accumulate once in a while it can be a real bear coming down driveways, going up hills etc.

Prescott Valley is just down a short hill on the highway and borders Prescott to the north east. It’s much flatter, with most having level properties, driveways etc. I’ve lived in the hills in S.CA many years, and I just get tired of hills...And with the occasional winter ice in that region, I prefer more level terrain. And with the 5k elevation it takes a big bite out of the high temps which are associated with lower elevation areas like Phoenix etc. We’ve been all over the western U.S. and it’s on top of our list to be sure.
