I had a 22lb dsh that was long and lean like a mountain lion. Everyone was afraid of him.
Definitely illegal to kill a mountain lion in Colorado. Here's some detail:
It is illegal to obtain a mountain lion license or hunt lions without a mountain lion education certificate issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), attesting to successful completion of CPWs Mountain Lion Education and Identification Course.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife requires hunters to allow collection of a small tooth located just behind the lions upper canine.
The tooth will be analyzed to determine the lions age. Hunters can help by making sure the jaw is propped open with a stick before rigor sets in and not having the carcass frozen during inspection. The animals age will be posted on the website 6 months after lion season ends.
Ages will be posted by seal numbers, so hunters should write the number down to check the age of their animal. For privacy reasons, hunter's names are not posted.
Thank God this one was still growing when it tangled with a strong, survival-motivated human.
Outcome of a hand-to-claw/teeth combat between a man and a full grown mountain lion is pretty much predictable.
Even little bitty domestic kittens have claws like razors!!
I fostered/bottle fed a two day old abandoned kitten, had to bottle feed him every 3 hours for six weeks. At the beginning of each feeding he would get really frantic trying to latch on to the bottle and hed SHRED my hands with his tiny razor claws.
My hands looked like raw hamburger during those bottle feeding days but it was all worth it. Hes now a beautiful and huge sweet black cat. I named him Tiny Baby Kitty or TBK.
PETA: LOCK HIM UP.
“we have confirmed the victims account that he was able to suffocate the animal while defending himself from attack,”
I can’t even handle a 10 pound house cat.
What state do you live in that rabies is that much of a problem?
Damn-that guy has got a titanium set for sure-otherwise he would have been mountain lion chow...
You should never, ever run/jog or even bike in lion country-In this rural neighborhood and others, people have put up signs on the trails in the parks leading to the woods, near the river, cliffs, etc-they say things like caution-mountain lion area-stay alert-do not run or bike. their tracks are all over the place-if I see tracks on/by a trail, I back out singing/yelling and waving a stick-I avoid that trail for awhile, too-I wonder if the runner just didn’t know better than to run in mountain lion country or if he just was careless-creatures that run look like prey items...
Yep
That was 2013. What came of it?
That doesn’t answer my question. But I see your point.
He was good, funny and clean.
Most stuff today is plain trash.
Jerry’s story reminds me of coon hunting with our neighbor and his jumping mules. The sycamore trees stood out stark white even in the starlight. Coon hunting when I was 9 or 10 was the most awesome thing to get to do. Those were better days than these but more than half a century ago.
the tone of the article is almost like they think the guy MURDERED the cougar.......
He’s lion. He grabbed him by the pussy...
Colorado has some really screwy ideas.
Yep. I was looking at some cop cases where they shot a dog. But couldnt find a conviction.
It was a buck knife, I remember that. In Canada, I think. His dog blocked the bear, the bear turned on the dog, then the guy jumped on the bear’s back and hacked away. He provided photos at the time.
Perfect quote for this article.
