A few years ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates fielded an entire team of black players from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, etc. They were all black. Not a single white guy on the field.
The ESPN TV announcer went on to complain that there were not enough African Americans playing baseball anymore.
This actually happened.
They are already bitching about all the White Euro players in the NBA.
This actually happened.
Of course.
It's not about DNA or melanin or ancestry.com profiles.
Jesse Jackson and company still insist that there aren’t enough blacks - they consider black players from those countries “Hispanics”, and complain that “African Americans” are disappearing from baseball (and I believe they are a smaller proportion of the players when viewed through that particular “racial prism”).
Heisman winner Kyler Murray is far too small for the NFL, but he seems intent on trying rather than take $5 million up front from the Oakland A’s. That’s not whitey’s fault.
That Pirates squad was from the mid-to-late 70’s. I remember them. I was a Philly kid attending college with a bunch of Pittsburgh guys. ESPN was just getting started back then covering the USFL, Big East B-ball, extreme sports and so forth. No baseball except maybe Sports Center.
