Consider that approx 75% of the globe rejects all kinds of attempted imposed cultural norms. You mention Japan, but the Chinese, Indians, Africans and S Americans dismiss out of hand the concepts and notions advanced by Euro American proglibs.
Guys like trim - the more beautiful the better, and chicks want strength/status. Given the choice, blacks will choose straight hair every time. (No wonder why Asian girls with long hair are choice mates for so many.) Consider how simple the genetic marker is to alter/change hair texture. That's just the first step.
