How would they have an advantage? It won’t be as much neighbor vs neighbor but cities versus everything else. There are some place like mine that are rural and neighbors are liberals, but they’re easily handled.

Cops REALLY need to go back to just doing regular police stuff. They shouldn't have ANY armored vics, nothing for dynamic entries, and so on. Any kind of tactical or SWAT stuff should be at the county level, under the Sheriff's office. If city cops encounter a situation requiring those kind of tactics, they can request assistance from the county. Period.

Remember now that lots of cops are ex military.

Ex-military doesn't mean that much. For each actual combat soldier, there's about SEVEN support guys. Many of the admin units have almost no tactical skills, many in my new unit can barely pass their basic rifle qual. (Many have trouble even zeroing...) Granted, your combat guys are more likely to go for cop jobs, but I would hazard a guess that 2/3 of your ex-military cops have no experience with combat military operations.

Authorities say Turner was among seven law enforcement officers shot by 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins. They say the decorated Vietnam War opened fire without warning when officers arrived at his home Oct. 5 to speak with his son about a sex assault investigation.

That article is lacking all the details about what happened.. Did they just knock on the door and then he started shooting? (Seems odd, not something that happens very often. Even crazy PTSD vets aren't likely to break on a doorbell...) Did they attempt a dynamic entry? That seems a more likely explanation when they have seven officers coming to the house just to talk to the son. In which case, even with a warrant, I wouldn't blame the guy one bit.
