Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) rebuked the Trump administration for its response to Hurricane Maria during a rally in Puerto Rico on Tuesday, committing to combat any diversion of federal funding from disaster relief toward building a border wall.
Speaking in San Juan, Warren advocated investigating the federal response to the devastating storm, even calling for the resignation of FEMA director Brock Long. She also advocated a Marshall Plan for the territory and an audit of Puerto Ricos debt, which has mired its government and infrastructure for decades. "I am hear again today to talk about the dignity and respect this island deserves from our government and the cruelty that has been inflicted upon it," said Warren, who announced her bid for the White House by launching an exploratory committee on New Years Eve.

The FEMA response was excellent. Then the local Democrats used their excellent thieving skills to divert the aid.
The socialist (dems) plan is to make PR a state, so the socialists(dems)can get two more senators and more representatives in congress. - Tom
Send all Puerto Ricans back to Puerto Rico and cut it loose.
The Spanish-American War was an ANTI-colonial war. Its primary motivation was an independent Cuba. Within a few years of the war, we spun that place off as an independent country. Not that Cuba fared well as an independent country. They first suffered under right-wing military dictators and then under communist dictators.
We also wound up with Philippines and Puerto Rico. In our estimation neither of these two places was ready for independence. Perhaps Senator Warren would like to comment on that assessment. Maybe she thinks one or both of those places was ready for independence circa 1900. But, why be rational about the issue, when you can spew hatred?
With respect to the Philippines, it gained its independence soon after WWII. During our occupation, we wound up with a problem that plagued the place prior to our involvement, and has plagued it since we left; namely, the Moros. This year, the Republic of the Philippines has a vote on expanding the semi-autonomous area of the Moros. So, maybe, 150 years after we took the place over, and 80 years after independence, they’re figuring out a way to square this circle. Perhaps, Senator Warren would like to comment on how we, the U.S., are responsible for the conflict between the Moros and the other people of the Philippines.
With respect to Puerto Rico, our occupation continued for a while, and we thought the decent thing to do was grant them self-rule, and see if they could develop a consensus for moving forward. Until recently, there was no majority for either independence or for joining the U.S. as a state. Our constitution doesn’t really provide for colonies. Instead, we turn “territories” into states; well, provided they would be viable states.
The problem with Puerto Rico is that it is an economic basket case. They can’t balance their budget, and they have infrastructure that is near collapse because of decades of neglect. Of course, Senator Warren could maybe speak to why the people of Puerto Rico cannot govern themselves. But, there’s no reason to, since to her it’s obviously the white man’s fault. Every problem in the entire effing world is the white man’s fault. The world, you see, was a utopia before humans started copulating with pigs and spawned white people.

“Not that Cuba fared well as an independent country. They first suffered under right-wing military dictators and then under communist dictators.”
Cuba had a tremendous economic boom post 1898. Havana became the most prosperous spot in Latin America, by far. In spite of the often nasty politics, life was good, and getting better fast. I think that’s why so many Cubans thought that Castro business was just another political thing and real life would go on. Wrong.
The Moros are, in truth, not that much of a problem, looking at it strategically. They mainly hurt people in their own provinces, and usually, mainly, each other. They harm the economic development of Western Mindanao.
The Spanish ended their truly disruptive activities in the 1840’s-1880s, which was their constant raiding of the Christian parts of the country. After that the Moros have been fighting essentially a rearguard against a tide of Christian settlers.
Indeed, an ancestor of mine conquered whats now Davao, Duterte’s city, and the surrounding provinces in 1847. He also brought in the first Christian settlers to that region, now home to about 5 million, almost all Christians.
Its worth stepping back and looking at the big picture.
does she even understand that PR is named PR because it was Spanish colonial ? and the British didn’t want it? And if PR wants independence, why all the hullaballoo about fixing PR after a hurricane? Speaking of which, it seems to be just fine there, as attested by all those congresscritters and lobbyists who just had a lovely vacation with all their needs met with not even a cursory nod to the locals.
The problem with Puerto Rico is that its an over-populated island without significant resources and no real economic value to add. Its got very little to offer, not even cheap labor.
It was also a useless colony to Spain, that held it out of habit mainly.
The Spanish-American war was a wholesale scam that got us more problems than it was worth.
It was instigated by early 1900s fake news, and fueled by Americans that wanted an “empire” like the Europeans.
These best thing we can do is dump PR into independence and finally wash our hands of Spain’s bastard children.
The cruelest infliction is that it’s been run by liberals like Warren for 50 years. Cut their asses loose! They serve no vital or strategic interest other than Democrap voters!
The Deep State has already decided that PR is going to be the 51st state.
I say cut them loose, should have given them independence long ago.
Bush League Republicans voted for it last time it came up in the House.
That’s why I worked so hard to Cantorize the weasel Eric Cantor.
Let’s set them free! They can make Donkey Face their queen and show us the right way to do Socialism.
The newest nation ‘The Republic of Puerto Rico and the Virgins Islands’. Also, no aid to them either...
Nah, not like democrats do not colonize with food stamps and free plantation biscuits...
