He has them in a box. If they accept the deal, they appear weak, he gets the wall. If they refuse his help they are refusing DACA fix, TPS extension - and the border security in a time when Hispanics are increasingly favoring Trump. In other words:

Trump’s first offer is always the best offer. That is the way he operates. He covers that in his book, The Art of the Deal.

First off I hate to say this but I am half expecting either a false flag or real disaster caused by the Dems, although their fingerprints won’t be directly on it. To blame the President obviously.
To answer your question, I do not know. But I do know that this is the very situation we do not need a President Trump, we need “The Donald”!
In other words, damn the torpedoes, he is going to do what is right for this country. Chucky, Nancy, and the rest can go to hell.

Trump is playing ahead in this game and he is winning because piece by piece he is exposing the democrats for hypocrites.
Firstly on the border wall itself (Schumer, Obama, Biden, Hillary comments in the past)
Secondly on the shutdown (having a fun time on vacation while federal workers are waiting and the President in waiting)
Thirdly on DACA (Pelosi not taking on this negotiation shows their outrage was all political manufacturing)
With Trump doing this he’s playing the long game whereby he will reach the point where he has exhausted all negotiation leverage and the democrats still won’t budge. Then the only option for border security is to declare a national emergency. You don’t do that first because politics is poker. You have to play along for a bit. The difference is Trump unlike Bush will not cave.
1) Assuming that Dems hold fast, next step is to up the stakes. Trump in conversation just drops this (or some similar) bombshell — “Fund $8B for the wall and I will extend DACA protections for 5 years rather than 3.” He says, “I am a president who would like to do right by these DACA folks, if only those ridiculous Dems would come to the table.”
2) Assuming that Dems hold fast, Trump re-opens the government by early Feb but declares an emergency, setting wall funding at a more modest $2B targeted at specific points on the border that he can credibly point to as completely out of control. DACA is off the table. Dems sue, but in part because his emergency declaration is so modest, Trump wins with a 6-2 SOTU vote (RGB does not vote).
3) Having established that he can declare an emergency, Trump funds $1.5B more for the wall in early 2020, pointing to the success he has had getting the first $2B spent quickly, well, and with good effect. On the campaign trail, he says explicitly that he may add more to this figure if the wall construction continues to go well and demonstrably solves problems.
4) This also allows Trump more time, political capital and energy to pursue other ends. While the legislative branch is in gridlock, he has by early 2020 appointed another Supreme Court justice (Thomas may resign in June if RBG does not) and made many more appointments. He has eased regulations further in dozens more industries. He cuts an interim but huge deal with China and gains further ground in NKor, Iran, Syria, Turkey and Mexico.

Maybe on our TAX RETURNS, they could add a line, next to the CONSCIENCE FUND, a box that says TO BUILD A WALL, I bet the returns would bring in 10 billion dollars.

The goal of the president: (1) defeat, marginalize, and frustrate the cartels, which pose a serious risk to American lives with their drug dealing, murder, rape, and other criminal activities. That requires (a) building a wall or fence to inhibit them from crossing the border, (b) improving the Border Patrol to ensure their rapid apprehension once they breach the wall, (c) diverting potential immigrants to our consulates to obtain legal visas in their countries of origin (reducing their human-trafficking business), and (d) better technology to detect drugs at ports of entry.
His second goal involves reforming our immigration system into something workable that reflects reality. Because the Constitution grants Congress the power “To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization,” or to write our immigration laws, Congress and not the President must address the issue of the long-term quasi-legalized immigrants granted work permits under programs of previous administrations despite their dubious authority. So President Trump wants Congress to enact a solution to the recipients of the “deferred action for childhood arrivals” program and the “temporary protected status” program. Congress rightfully should have addressed these abuses of law many years ago.
Third, President Donald John Trump wants to win reelection and break the spirit of the Democrats. Many otherwise conservative Hispanic citizens and other voters care deeply about the recipients of the aforementioned programs and greatly appreciate the robust American economy with easily available jobs and fuel production to match. If the Democrats now reject this plan in favor of eschewing a trifling expense to make the southwestern border less permeable to Mexican, Salvadoran, and other crime cartels that terrorize Hispanic communities and others throughout American, then many of these voters will reject the Democrats and join the Donald John Trump political base in time for the election of 2020. Hardworking American citizens (in contrast to Democrats) dislike criminal activity in their neighborhoods, targeting their daughters.
If the Democrats now capitulate, then Trump wins. Otherwise, they seem even more unlikable and petulant than Trump, who consequently wins. Good job, Mister President!

Call me when that happens! You can even wake me up in the middle of the night! McTurtle’s capability probably centers around taking his morning dump and tying his shoes.
I believe you are correct. When the next group arrives they will charge the border, and give Trump the cover he needs. A judge will stop him, then he has to go to plan C. Probably more troops on the border, or close it entirely.
At some point the public will see what a farce this is, and how a wall at certain locations would be effective.

I think todays’ speech/offer was a gift to the democRATS but Trump knew Pelosi would never go for it. Which is why the offer was made. It was sui generis. Now that is has been rejected...it’s off the table going forward.
Peosi and Schumer are playing a losing hand, and yet they think that they and their mediot allies can swing public opinion to their side and turn a pair of deuces into a Royal Flush.
Next,...file the plan for the RIF’s (per the law) and let the firings commence 30 days later. Clear out the democRAT operatives/saboteurs posing as bureaucrats. Once this starts happening, they will have less than zero leverage.
They (Pelosi and Schumer) are between a rock and a hard place with no upside. They fold, and their base will turn on them. Trump isn’t going to fold and is playing them like a Stradivarius.
