A Navy submarine commander was disciplined and demoted last summer after admitting to paying for female prostitutes while stationed in the Philippines.
Capt. Travis Zettel lost the confidence to command the attack submarine USS Bremerton and was relieved of duty back in August following the investigation...

That won't happen. Seriously though, this Captain should've known better.
His poor judgment wasn't in getting a hooker. It was getting ten of them in the presence of his crew and thinking no one was going to blab about it. Drummed in to every sailor's brain these days is the notion that if you see misbehavior and don't report it, you're just as culpable as the person who misbehaved.
If you want to bang a hooker, be discrete. Be discrete with where you do it, and who your liberty buddies are. Especially today when liberty antics make it to Facebook at the speed of light.
For better or worse, the bacchanalian days of getting hammered with your crew surrounded by a harem of hookers ended a long time ago and this Commanding Officer knew it, or should have.
What’s wrong?
He paid them right?
He didn’t drug, abuse or otherwise mistreat them, right?
He must not be a Democrat.
The legacy of Tailhook.
Captain is 0-6 in the Navy.....equivalent to an Army/Marine Corps/Air Force Col. His next promotion is to Rear Admiral!
Are you kidding? Talk about conduct unbecoming. This guy set himself up for all manner of compromise. He was the captain of an attack submarine and had been strategic weapons officer on a boomer - he has all sorts of valuable intelligence that about a million interested parties would like to get at. Not to mention that 40 years ago even I as a callow midshipman knew that consorting with prostitutes would get you instantly shitcanned. Jesus - getting dopes mixed up with hookers is the oldest trick in the spy handbook.
“Can you IMAGINE a member of the US Navy employing a prostitute..?”
No sir, not me. Except this one time in San Francisco......
Maybe he wrote a rubber check.
Go see, he’s not an O-6.
Yep! There's a pre and post-Tailhook Navy and at this point, there aren't many sailors left from the pre-Tailhook Navy. But you're right. Tailhook was the singular event that forced the change from "Grandpa's navy" to today's "United States Navy Inc."
Walk down the main passageways of any squadron on the flightline, look at the posters on the walls. Today's Navy is as PC as any college campus.
It’s now a “Global Force For Good”....Puke!
Wow - this must be a new age military - fifty years ago when I was on Okinawa a good majority of the troopers would have been up for demotion had these standards applied......
It gets confusing. Captain is both a paygrade (O-6) and a title. Any CO of a ship is referred to as "Captain" regardless of their paygrade. As such, CDR Zettle would have been addressed as "Captain" by his crew but his rank was Commander, or O-5.
My father fought to invade Okinawa and they sent him back I don’t know how many times
The problem with Tailhook was an underage girl. Lt. Paula Coughlin had a reputation of being a “loose” woman, however, when it comes to underage females, no excuses and this enhanced Coughlin’s case.
While I don't condone prostitution in any form, I agree with you. Clinton can have oral sex in the Oval Office with an intern, and remain CIC, but look what happens to this guy. Hillary AND likely Obama use unsecured communications and put classified information at risk and absolutely nothing happens to them, BUT, an enlisted man takes a picture inside a submarine and goes to prison.
Exactly so.
How are the illegitimate children of these hookers gonna eat? Do people actually believe hookers are in it strictly to party?
This has to be the Onion or something.
Are they really sacking sailors for paying whores?
When I was in Pacfleet, they would have sacked every man in the fleet.
Just
Bizarre
