Many Colt Walkers and similar-looking predecessor Patterson Colts survived because they were modified to fire cartridges and thus remain useful. Otherwise, with a time-consuming reload process, it is a powerful but not fully practical weapon best suited to historical reenactments.

The real trick was ejecting the percussion cap while cycling the next round. I’m sure a lot of guys were shot trying to unjam them.
