Well, maybe their success isn't so hard to explain.

You aren't constantly left scratching your head as to why evil seemingly permeates more and more of our lives?

If you do not have Christ, you will be on a constant search to fill that void. And it would only make sense, since Christ is the pinnacle of all things good, that the things that fill that void, while they start out pretty, ultimately will not be pretty at all.
