Definitely. The killer thing the mitochondrial DNA test results helps with is finding distant cousins and networking. If you get lucky you can connect with people who have spent their whole lives researching your family name. Doesn’t always work out that way of course. :-)

LOL! Much of my family tree has been done by such cousins. One, who passed away recently, had a stroke at a young age which left her physically unable to work but mentally sharp, but I met her through networking on Ancestry, not DNA testing.

Another distant cousin showed me evidence to convince me that another ancestor who was supposedly taken in by the Sioux more than likely joined the tribe of his own accord. Fascinating stuff. People had to grow up fast back in those days and I came to understand why a 16 year old young man might choose the seemingly carefree life of a Sioux hunter over the drudgery of life as a pioneer farmer.
