My children only got one birthday gift a year from us and maybe a trip to Chuck E Cheese or Applebees. On Christmas they might get several but usually just one major one and a few "stocking stuffer" type gifts.
Money was never an issue with us but just didn't believe in showering children with excessive amount of gifts. Just seems something overly decadent about it.

(Chuckle) My dad did the same thing to me. Just one and that’s it, THEN go out to eat. That’s why I had a mentality “maybe one..” My aunts just gave us cash because I learned years later they got tired of thinking of what to give us. Cash solves everything. The kid in the video will expect a LOT every year and they set themselves up for a really bad Christmas tantrum if the same amount of gifts are not there..
I’m with you...gift giving should be special...I can remember some of my gifts from 55 years ago...because 1) I only got One, 2) it wasn’t anything I really wanted ie a lady’s broach of a swan? When I was 13...still have it tho.
I’ve seen some amazing birthday parties for young kids and wonder how the parents will be able to keep topping them by the time the kids are 16.
