"The country of Iran, as an example, is responsible for a bloody proxy war against Saudi Arabia in Yemen, trying to destabilize Iraq's fragile attempt at democracy, supporting the terror group Hezbollah, propping up dictator Bashar Assad in Syria (who has killed millions of his own citizens) and much more....."

"Is President Trump about to replicate President Bush's folly?"
Columnist Pat Buchanan
It is patently obvious that President Trump has made Iran into the nasty guy just like all the nasty characters his close friend Vince McMahon rolled out over the years to entertain like the one I remember so well from the 1970's with his turban and dark glasses, the Grand Wizard of Wrestling....
The nonsense about Assad in Syria whose crime was only to fight back against Al-Qaeda jihadists and their kin backed by the Saudis and their cousins the Qataris trying to overthrow him is just like World War I when a British propaganda machine (heck, probably the same on operating in this situation) told us German soldiers in Belgium were tossing babies into bayonets.
The USA was being set up for war then just as it appears to be now.
The intense economic pressures Trump has begun to apply to Iran are steps short of war, the kind of treatment given to Germany and Japan in 1940 and 1941.
U-Boats were attacking US ships by the middle of 1941 and we all know what Japan did in the end.
Columnist Pat Buchanan's recent column points to a reprise of President Bush's policies in Iraq, with more disastrous consequences on the way.
Buchanan tries to clear up the nonsense about Yemen in his recent column:
"It is not Iran....

I’ll take MBS before Iran any time.
Who should “do” Iran, though..?
ISRAEL, of course, it’s her backyard.
Not a SINGLE US soldier should be involved.
Iran took the entire US embassy hostage in 1979, and killed hundreds of Marine peacekeepers in Beirut. Syria has sponsored terror organizations (including the PLO, DFLP, PFLP and Hezbollah) that have killed hundreds of Americans ever since the Alawite minority took over under the Baath Party banner in the 1960’s. That’s not even counting the Syrian-backed insurgents during the Iraq War that killed thousands of Americans.
I feel bad for Syria’s Alawites, whose stock in trade is anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism in order to distract its Sunni majority from the fact that they are ruled by Alawite apostates. The problem with the Alawite way of diverting the Sunni majority’s disgruntlement at being ruled by what Sunnis see as a tribe of demons in human form has cost the US big time in blood and treasure.
Good points, although I’m not so sure I feel bad for Syria’s Alawites - at least the ones actually ruling.
The OP similarly distorts WW2 history. “The treatment” given to Germany and Japan in 1940 and 1941:
A) Started a lot earlier than that, and was still way too little, too late, and poorly targeted as well. German re-armament and aggression should have been militarily smashed in its infancy.
B) Did not exactly come out of a vacuum. (German re- armament and aggression should have been militarily smashed in its infancy!)
A and B would have demanded blood and treasure...
