This is nice but the one main commonality to suicides is psych meds. They are even labelled that suicide is a risk.

Agree. The work week has gone up from forty hours to sixty. Maybe 70 or 80 in some occupations.

Salaries? Not so much.

Infinite increase in rules, regulations, compliance, CME/CLE at work, which literally chews up another couple of weeks a year.

Nobody gains enough seniority to get regular time off.

The only way to get time off is to change jobs.

Underlying it all is an insatiable local, state, and federal government taking half or more of earnings.

It's too much, we are enslaved by a government that is taking our money and coming up with ways to use up more of our effort and free time with it.

Need a revolution of simplifying and cutting back on everything, including ridiculous electronic connection 7/24/365.

People need down time to think, contemplate their lives, pray, meditate, rest with family.

The industrial-government-media-academic leftist monolith wants all of our time, money, all of our lives.

One element seldom noted is the diaspora of the American family. Physical distance, with only the empty calories of social media contacts to take the place of mutual emotionally supportive relationships drains the source of meaning in life. By contrast, clans-people don’t kill themselves.

Good point plus suicides have grown worse among that demographic the more society has done to normalize them.

Participation in food stamps, in medicaid, etc is down in 99 out of 100 rural county in Southern and central GA. But it is down only slightly. It is not down enough to be statistically significant is comparison to other statistics.

Based on the variety of FReeper answers, there are many factors involved. Christian faith is one. But what is the rate with Hindus or Sikh?

“Benzodiazapene withdrawal (taken as prescribed) is causing more suicides than is generally known.”

worse than heroine withdrawal ... attempts to kick via cold turkey quitting can easily kill you with seizures in just a few hours after trying to quit ...

Newcomb, are you involved in a local church? “Man’s chief end us to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”

Grandparents use to encourage their grandchildren to 'get married and have a family' too... That's NOT happening either.

Many ways working Americans are dying out - it's not just suicide.

We might not be dying fast enough for democrats who complain about working class white people, old white people and traditional Americans in general.

But it's happening.

Yes, progressives want us off the stage... and that's depressing. Progressives don't feel there's enough brown and black Americans. Ask Michael Moore.

Black and brown people make up 92% of the world's population - progressives don't think that's enough. It's depressing... now they bring in cheap labor - rapists, and killers... and cheat the vote.

Eight percent of the world's population is white. Our culture is dying.

I’ve not a had a working TV in my house for 20 years. Don’t miss it all. I watch re-runs on my computer, special events, Trump rally’s, historical based stuffed, movies on Netflix and Amazon and so on. TV is like a covered wagon to me. Meaning...………”ancient history”.

The sanctity of life has little meaning to people these days.....parents are killing their kids and kids parents....the direct result of destroying the institution of marriage and family.

In the days before radio and television, the primary form of entertainment was people getting together, there really wasn’t any other form of entertainment available.

Now a man can literally be an island.

Why do I spend so much time at FR?

Because it is the one place I can chat with like-minded people, harder and harder to do that in the real world. Now you have to watch everything you say in public. And of course I also enjoy a lot of non-political threads here, precisely because this is where I find people who can relate to and enjoy the things I enjoy.

“overprescribing medications that are supposed to cure depression. Basically bandaids over underlying mental problems.”

That makes no sense. The neurochemical imbalance IS the underlying problem in many depressions.

Many simple-minded, dumb comments in this thread. Yours isn’t. Add the need for Christ and His commandments and the traditional nuclear family and you’ve pretty much got it covered.

You aren’t wrong. And Xanax is the worst.

I wish that I had explored other options before being prescribed Xanax for my crippling anxiety and panic disorder. Don’t get me wrong, it works well but I am completely dependent on it. It doesn’t make me “happy” or high but my body lets me know very quickly when it’s time for another one.

Over a year ago, I ran out of my Xanax early because my dosage was too low and I had to take extra. After a few days, I was hallucinating, near seizures and on the verge of suicide. Luckily, a relative gave me some of hers to get me through until refill time.

Benzos can be helpful but dependence starts after only a few days.

Thanks for posting. I remember seeing this thread but not reading it the other day.

I just found out that a young man, probably 16 or so suicide a couple days ago.

My son was his camp counselor at a Christian Camp two years ago. My kid is pretty broken up over it.

My son is dealing with a bunch of death this year. The camp directors wife just died of cancer and he went to the funeral Saturday and one of his fellow staffers drowned over the summer. My son tried to rescue him.

I lead a youth program at church and think I might need to include Suicide is not an option in my teaching.

“Benzos can be helpful but dependence starts after only a few days.”

yep. and they are all horrible once addicted, but i think Ativan is he worst because it has a very short half life and therefore has to be taken several times a day once addicted to stave off seizures ... the other issue with all benzos is that the withdrawal is essentially a massive exacerbation of the original anxiety symptoms so while it seems one is treating the original anxiety, one is actually treating the withdrawal symptoms ... the best protocol for weaning from benzo addiction was developed by a female doctor in the UK, and involves substituting an equivalent amount of diazepam, which has a very long half life, and then slowly reducing the dose over a period of several months ...
