No.

The GOP has a massive branding/image problem that goes way, way beyond “diversity” or running “black/Hispanic/women” candidates.

It took me a while to get this, but in essence, the GOP’s marketing approach is about 30 years behind.

Successful products, such as Nike (whatever your thoughts are about Nike) have invested in long term campaigns that appeal to the heart and emotion (”Just Do It”= success, overcoming, confidence, achievement). This is just one example.

Name the GOP’s “product.” You can’t. They don’t have one.

Trump does, to a point: “Make America Great Again.” But what does that really mean? It’s assumed it stands for a bunch of principles and programs. NO.

MAGA is a FEELING, a slogan that appeals to the heart and emotion that says “A great America is a good America.”

That’s wonderful as far as it goes, but “in general,” this is NOT reaching those under 50 the way it should. Why?

Nothing wrong with the slogan, but Rs have NOT explained in EMOTIONAL ways that grab the heart how a “great” America benefits Bill Smith the IT guy who doesn’t have health care or Suzy Jones, the single mother.

A “growing economy” and “money in your pocket” are NOT enough for the 21st century, because Millennials and those younger need to feel relevant, important. You must go further with MAGA to touch them by showing how money in their pocket allows them free time to serve at the soup kitchen, or to work less to clean up their local park or whatever.

MONEY and the economy has been treated by the GOP as an end of itself. The Dems figured out how to make “heart” appeals with nothing whatsoever to back it up-—but it is good for getting votes.

This is why the “We have a great economy” doesn’t win elections. Call it dumbing down, but ultimately it’s up to the Party and the Candidates to MAKE THAT CONNECTION.

Why do Tester and Manchin win? I don’t know either, but I’m guessing it’s 100% because they have made that “Clinton connection” that makes people feel special (it doesn’t matter if you think it’s dishonest, it’s what the people think). It’s the ONLY answer for these two douchenozzles.

Now, you have to throw out Zero. He was sui generis. There will never be another Obama because there can only be one “first black president.” No policy issues mattered because it was a “heart” statement that Americans could clean their conscience by voting for the black president. That only works once, and it is telling that Obama NEVER COULD TRANSLATE HIS OWN SUCCESS TO ANYONE ELSE IN THE PARTY.

I think there is a lot more to say on this, but if we continue to blame fraud, voting machines, public schools, or whatever-—even if some is true-—we will lose elections because so far the 21st century is all about the heart.

That is why I put a lot of blame on Paul Ryan. Newt tried to give them issues to run on in this election and how to go about it but Ryan would no listen. I am so glad he is gone.

absolutely- i was hopeful they would change after 2006 but they are beyong brain dead...

Remember- all this BLEXIT and the improved JA for Donald Trump by blacks is solely due to this president- it has NOTHING to do with the GOP or GOPe...

this is the stupid party that consistently turned its back on spectacular black conservatives like Alan West...they pay no attention to a godsend like Candace Owns- thankful our president knows better...

The GOP doesn’t seem to have a product because many have spent decades trying to get along with Democrats rather than keep campaign promises.

Why do Tester and Manchin win

They win because they are authentic "locals," simply. Both ran perfect campaigns for their states: tradition, identity, and trust as a local. Neither GOP candidate had that authenticity.

R WVA Morrisey is a New Yorker.
R MT Rosendale is a Marylander

I get that the WVA primary was complicated, but there's no way to win against a "son" if you're running an identifiable "other." (btw, that's how Ocasia-Whatever won... she convinced the idiots she's "one of them").

But here's the thing: only Manchin and Tester could pull that off in the states.

And only Trump can pull that off nationally.

Thanks for you insight.
I know so many younger people that both are working married with two kids that live in the suburbs that do overall feel the Trump Effect. They are paying less taxes and most own their own homes.
The people that are single moms working low paying jobs, just automatically vote Democrat because they need their government assistant and believe the big bad Republican will take it away. I see what you are saying about better messaging.

The The GOP is the corporatist globalist cheap labor party to blue collar America. That's the problem.

Newt had it right with his Contract with America. We are in an opportunity America. Make the “Contract” about “making the most of the opportunity.”

As the Trump economy gets better, there are those who are not happy. They feel left out and left behind. They need a hand up. Career consultation to help folks lost in the system would be available. Government would not only build up the infrastructure but provide a road map for ones future. Instead of government against us, it would be government for you.

LS, DJT DID appeal to my emotions. Making America GREAT again, was a damn fine slogan. He grew up in the same America as many of us here on FR. We understood what our nation was once (and we often reminiscence and comment how we miss that USA.) Perhaps this was the reason the emotion was so intense. The USA was revered; we loved our nation intensely. Today's America is not anything we recognize.

Our party will never be in the 21st century when most of our members are so old they've forgotten their pride in what we were and how much we accomplished as a nation. Their loss is our downfall. Until we once again bring civics, history, and GOD (not necessarily in that order) into our public schools, we will never see progress in growing the party.
