More than likely it was distracted driving and tunnel vision.

Smith system:
Aim high in steering
Get the big picture
Keep your eyes moving
Leave yourself an out
Make yourself seen

Thanks for the reply. No problem we all make mistakes.
I was wondering what had changed from the article.
Take care.

I read that later.

It’s possible.

I dated a boy once whose night vision was almost non-existent.

A couple times he persuaded his folks to let him drive me home and I was terrified.

She should know if her night vision is bad enough that she should be driving, OR if she saw the blinking lights, which are hard to miss, she should have slowed down until she was sure it was OK to proceed.

What else do flashing lights mean except some sort of emergency or school bus? She should have known that.

I see others like her texting while driving every time I go out.

Only sadness fills those of us who live close.

Those of us who have lived in trailer parks have had to deal with the same issues. In 1995-97 the kids had to run to the highway to catch the bus. When we moved out in 2012 the buses came into the park at 2 pick up sites.

That is why I occasionally post and like to make comments on FR. IF I make a stupid statement, usually someone brings it to my attention and I actually learn something.

I got into a discussion last week on an energy thread regarding the value of updating building codes and insulation values on new construction homes. Another Freeper took exception. I could tell they were very pissed about my favorability of new building requirements. They were totally against government interference because it cost them money that they perceived unnecessary. I brought up the fact that things like requiring smoke detectors have saved lives. I pointed out that requiring higher R values in attic ceilings is your best ROI that you can do in your home. However, he would not listen. After a couple responses I gave up. Some people you just can not reason with. “What we have here is a failure to communicate”.

LOL, “Cool Hand Luke”!

Many Freepers walk that line of discounting all government, but I think that is a mistake.

We aren’t anarchists (no government) we simply believe in smaller government. I am on board with minimizing building codes and zoning regulations where possible, but I also understand we need to have SOME regulations.

I live in a blue state, and I see building codes as being out of control, but...we do need to have some.

Some building codes are stupid and dome for political reasons. For example, after Hurricane Andrew, Florida decided that all 2x4 studs installed in houses in Florida had to have a #2 grade stamp. Stud Grade was no longer up to code. I can tell you from an engineering/strength there is absolutely no difference in surviving class 3, 4 or 5 hurricane force winds between the two grades.

However, requiring copper Romex wire as opposed to Aluminum wire in new construction was because houses burned down. GFI circuit breakers are required in all bathrooms and kitchens because people electrocuted themselves. Vapor barriers are required because without them mold will grow inside your exterior walls. Pressure treated sill plates are required because old sill plates rotted out. Ice and water shield on a new roof is required in all northern climates because it prevents water from baking up under asphalt shingles during he winter. A lot of common building practices today were not common 50-100 years ago.

I am with you on these things. I have an issue with things in code that do things like limit the temperature of water coming out of a shower head so children don’t get burned.

I am not advocating for children being scalded, but people managed to generally not scald their children for generations...but it seems like a bit of nanny-statism.

So, the woman who recklessly drove over and killed three children had to pay $1,500.00 to get released. UFB

Some reports say she mistook the lights on the bus for a tractor. She is a children’s director at a church, married mom of two.

For the rest of you ready to get your pound of flesh from her, lynch her if you want. But I guarantee that you’ve made similar errors of judgment in your life but were lucky enough to have less tragic outcomes.

Or the stupid new water flow restricted faucets. California wrote new laws a couple years back limiting the flow I think to 1.8 gallons per minute on kitchen faucets. So, when I replaced my old faucet recently with a new Grohe faucet the new flow types were the only thing available. I live in NH not CA. I have a well. Plenty of water here. Now I just let the water run longer to cool down or fill up a pot.

However, I am actually in favor of the 1.6 gallon toilets. I have replaced all three toilets in my 1972 house. I did this because I have a 1972 leach field. That means 3.4 gallons LESS water going into my leach old leach field every time we flush. That turns into hundreds of gallons over the course of a year. Also, the new American Standard comfort height Champion toilet works better than the old 5 gallon ones. This is the toilet that they demonstrate it flushing like 20 golf balls at the home shows. Put the lid down and stand back or it might suck you in.

$1,500.00 to get released.

************

It was $15,000 for the bond. But still seems ridiculous

A bondsman will usually charge 10% to 15% of the amount of the bond.

Thanks. I realized what you were referring to after I had posted.
But I agree that is ridiculous for a three death event.

It makes me so angry when I am near such careless self centered drivers. They can easily kill someone every time they drive. My high school boyfriend was killed by a drunk driver when he was 17 and he didn’t even get to graduate because of that drunk. That was 40 years ago. I know his parents and siblings miss him every single day and mourn for the loss of his young life filled with such potential.

LOL, we got one of those "Power Flush" toilets many years back, and when you flush it, it sounds EXACTLY like an airline toilet!

So much so that we put a door cover 3D high res vinyl sticker on the inside of the door that looks like this:

We get people who go in there, see the back of the door when it is closed and wonder "Why do that have that there?"

Until they flush the toilet, and they get the joke!
