Still, it's not implausible to me that the story was fabricated in order to destroy Kavanaugh.

Female friends of Kavanaugh repeatedly pointed out that the girls and boys from the private Catholic schools hung out together. Not so much with the non-Catholic private schools. They identified pairings.
