I agree. Looks to me like Pres. Trump is avoiding a pre-election media storm over firing Rosenstein, by letting this testimony play out, after which R will have to resign. If Baker knew McCabe was serious, and McCabe tried to get Rosenstein in on the plot, R had a duty to tell Trump immediately — even if R thought it was a joke. Conceivably, R. did tell Trump, but that seems very unlikely.
Let’s hope that after R is replaced, Sessions leaves to pursue other opportunities after the election. Being an honorable man, Sessions couldn’t conceive of the sort of vipers’ nest he was getting into, and was immediately outmaneuvered. The job requires someone cynical enough to see what is happening, with no desire to protect the DoJ/FBI as an institution by hiding the crimes of its personnel. Tough Love required to clean up this mess. Keep the LawFare crowd busy playing defense.
