I like to think that maybe something else died with McCain. He was too stupid to realize that the Press was never going to be his friend. Trump knows differently, and acts accordingly. Maybe this can enlighten other Republicans.
This is an excellent point.
You can see that the McCain approach has gone to the grave with him, by looking no further than Lindsey Graham.
Even Grassley, McConnell and Collins played this perfectly (in hindsight - even Flake - I think he stumbled unknowingly into brilliance, by calling the D’s bluff and handing them what they were foolishly demanding, a 7th FBI investigation, which was inevitably going to turn up zilch, the R’s deflated the entire D stalling strategy).
Trump has demonstrated how to win the R’s in Congress; and even the Stupid Party has finally learned a valuable lesson. Hopefully, the schooling Trump has given them, becomes the new normal; even after the teacher has long since left the stage.
