If California is the gold standard among the 50 states in the country, then why are thousands leaving every year for lower taxed, less regulated, less Democrat-dominated locales?
Reading the DC/NY-centric press, the Golden State is regularly held up as a role model for America. But the mainstream media always fails to report on the mass exodus of struggling Californians leaving at a higher and higher rate each year. Particularly, many young parents and families are picking up and moving somewhere else because they have simply been priced out of the state.
According to the American Community Survey, Californias net domestic out-migration has almost tripled to 140,000 annually since 2010. Over the last seven and a half years, the state has lost about a million people, with a great number of that coming from the Los Angeles area.

See my number 18.
Yes, let’s hope more leave.
This is BAD NEWS. Now these stupid leftards will INFECT other red states with their stupidity...
So thousands of families have had enough of high taxes, no affordable housing etc, but when they leave CA, they demand higher taxes and less affordable housing?
I wonder if anyone buys that?
Middle class is moving out, leaving the very Rich, and the very Poor.. Sound like a country just to the south of us?
CA is a big state. Many people are simply relocating to less expensive parts as they retire from high paying jobs. I live a little over an hour from the Bay Area and housing prices while up are about a quarter or less than there. Lots of “equity refugees” here.
NY is the same except the weather isnt as nice.
However, it is earthquake and wildfire free, and we actually have water.
NY is a beautiful state with wonderful agriculture, great dairy farms, apple orchards, and vinyards.
The Rats are running Ads here saying that GOP House Members supported “double Taxation” because they Voted for the Tax Cut Bill.
The limit of $10,000 for writing off State Taxes is now double Taxation. They seem to forget that CA decides how high the Tax Rates are, not the Federal Government.
BTW - My GOP Congress critter Dana Rohrbacher is trying to get the SALT Deduction doubled to $20,000 which I think would have saved us some CA House Seats including his. Too late now, what will be will be.
I see his Rat Opponent’s Commercials and Yard signs all over and I am yet to see anything from Dana.
Even OC went for Hillary in 2016, Voting Rat for the first time I can remember...
How do you think Orange County went from 250,000 residents in 1945 to over three million today? There was a baby boom but folks weren’t THAT busy. My neighbors in the early 1960s were from Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Mexico, among other places. Land was cheap, traffic was reasonable, and cities were uncrowded back then. Now it’s your turn.
I hope they dont move to Colorado and vote with the other Californians for the same things here.
Too late. They have fouled their nests and have moved to CO to foul OUR nests.
Welcome to Colorful Calirado!
Hey, move to NC mtns! Our property taxes are so low that outsiders think what they have to pay in a yr here is a monthly bill. Boy are they surprised...and happy.
I have friends who settled here from southern CA during the Bush years. Good friends and conservative. They love it here.
The sad thing about California, and water is we have it. It’s just a matter of managing it. NOT the environmentalist way, but sensibly managing it. Ever notice how we have plenty of water to fight the purposefully set wildfires, but politically never enough? Isn’t it something they keep approving all these major water consuming projects, but don’t do anything but demagogue the issue? Little non native fishes in the Sacramento river are a pathetic excuse.
Yeah, we have the water, and we could have the access to it too, but as so much the Democrats hold it off to the side as an issue for the next election. We could have had plenty just in desalination by now, but again the Democrats.
Don’t worry illegals will pick up the slack...........
A lot of the people leaving California are Conservatives not just Marxist RAT wackjobs.
“A lot of the people leaving California are Conservatives not just Marxist RAT wackjobs.”
Glad you are pointing this out! I moved from CA to Prescott Valley AZ and half the residents come from CA. This area was 65% Republican in the 1990s and still is in 2018.
If liberals were leaving CA, the CA Republican Party would not have seen a 33% drop in registration. People forgot political power in the 1990s was evenly divided between the Dims and GOP.
But if these people who are leaving California and moving to Arizona are smart enough to know what a crappy place California has become, don't they know it was crappy because of the politicians and their liberal policies they elected, that have transformed the Golden State into the Shithole State?
They seem oblivious to the fact that they caused the state to have high taxes, unaffordable housing and lousy schools.
And they're not smart enough to know they did it to themselves? And they're bringing their destructive liberal politics with them to, in turn, ruin Arizona?
These liberals are like an infestation of cockroaches.
You should educate yourself. Start with CA proposition 187 circa 1994. 187 would have put an end most all tax paid services for illegal aliens which were choking off the state. They held an election and won big, it was historic. After the vote the fed along with their state co-conspirators burned their ballots and declared their free election illegal.
For decades Californians have screamed, begged, voted, demanded, signed petitions, and created political propositions. And for decades they were ignored, deceived, lied to and conned not only by politicians running the state, but the feds as well.
“If California is the gold standard “
...of high taxes, illegal aliens, stupid liberals...
