Those who didn't live through it cannot imagine the feminist propaganda sweeping over girls and young women, promising that they could "have it all"—sex without consequences, great careers PLUS marriage and motherhood, freedom to act like the boys, go out, get drunk, and as of 1973, have an abortion if she didn't feeeeel ready to be a mom—what the hell. It was a pervasive message to the Youth Rebellion that was already being fed by post-war affluence. Boys weren't deaf to these enticements—it was all to their (very) short-term benefit. The nation is only slowly finding out that the USSR and the CIA were behind much of that disorder and destruction of family, tradition, morality, norms. Then, what the young people heard were the come-ons.
