I am sure that both Grassley and McConnell are extremely frustrated by this constant delay and this obviously ploy that is nothing more than delay. They do not have to be played for fools. I think this can be easily salvaged. Here are the actions that should be taken.
1. Have Grassley take a firm stand to Ford and her lawyers then announce it to the public. a. We welcome Ford to testify and have given her ample opportunity to do so. While we have requested Monday, we will accept her appearance on Wednesday. b. We have bent over backwards to give her time and have agreed to the following conditions - place of her choosing, public or private, limited cameras, etc. c. We will not negotiate on absurd conditions such who can question and having Kavanaugh go first. This request shows no seriousness to testify and is an obvious ploy. d. One condition that we require is to get the letter sent to Senator Feinstein. e. Because of the senate rules that requires delay between the Committee vote and the vote by the full Senate we will hold the Committee vote on Monday. The Committee will meet to hear Fords testimony later in the week.
2. Get 3 of the 4 holdouts firmly in line if Ford does not testify. If Ford does testify then that has a whole different dynamic. Find out the locked in positions so you know exactly what we you working with. This is where the appeal from Grassley and McConnell come in. It is a personal appeal from both and not from Trump. This is where the extreme hardball must be employed. I think Grassley’s play is appeal on his reputation. McConnell should be ruthless if necessary.
3. Hold the vote on Monday. If Flake votes no because he wants to hear Ford’s testimony then fine. Lose the vote 11-10. This is fine as long as Flake agrees to vote yes in the confirmation vote if Ford does not testify and can always change his mind if necessary after the testimony.
4. Implement the senate procedures to have a vote on Friday. If Ford does not testify or if she does testify and it falls apart then no problem. If she testifies and there is further follow-up that is required then that is a different dynamic. However, I think the vote can take place after resolution.
Grassley has already lost control of his caucus.
Grassley is doing what he’s always done. Obey the will and whim of the dems.

It might fly with FReepers but with the midterms coming up we aren't the audience that matters.

If McFlake is the only holdout in the Senate, have Pence cast the deciding vote. There still may be Red State Dems who feel they had better vote for Kavanaugh......and there is also the chance that there are some other Dems who actually have a CONSCIENCE.

You should have had the vote last Wednesday when it was originally scheduled. This situation is a dem dirty trick and you and McConnell blinked.
Memo to self...if I ever accuse anybody of anything and don’t fill a police report, and don’t remember where/when it happened, and never talked about it for 30+ years - I will demand the terms and the process for a hearing 36 years later...especially if I’m an activist against a political party that supports the accusee.

the audience that matters......I think the audience that matters is sick of the back pedaling, shrinking, cowardness of the people in charge. If she don’t show up, have the vote.

I agree they should vote it out of the committee and hold the floor vote after she testifies.

She’s not going to “testify”. This is a “recovered” memory and complete BS. She Can’t remember anything. One thing is clear: di fi refuses to give the un-redacted original letter to the committee...if it ever existed at all. The repubs are being played...as usual. Pathetic and disgusting!

Fair? Someone makes a 36 year old charge with no supporting evidence at the last minute of a confirmation and gets to show up and try to publicly sabotage someone with whom she disagrees politically, The senator who received her letter months ago refuses to reveal its contents and suffers no consequence. The accuser insists on having the accused speak first, before she has leveled her charges and insists that he have no chance to reply. Fair?
