How would you lock the room while being in it? The lock is usually on the inside... Wouldn’t you lock yourself in the room if the lock were on the outside?
I think her statement was meant to imply that the two boys locked the room to keep the other party guests from coming in. That’s how I took it. Obviously, by her statement, she had no trouble getting out.
Bedroom locks are make to keep people out, not in. That’s where her story begins to unravel. There is no such thing as locking in.
