The hunt is on for budtenders, cannabis cultivators, weed botanists and dozens of other new jobs that have sprouted with Floridas nascent medical marijuana industry.
With dispensaries scouting locations across the state and 147,000 people signed up to use the now-legalized drug, the developing industry is quickly trying to recruit thousands of workers to develop, grow and sell medical cannabis.
Medical marijuana businesses say stoners need not apply. A passion for smoking weed is a liability, and a criminal record involving drugs will almost certainly disqualify most candidates.
We get hundreds of applications for every job opening we have, said Michelle Terrell, spokesman for Wakefield, Mass.-based Curaleaf, which opened a dispensary in south Orlando in early August. And maybe only 10 percent of those are qualified and meet the legal requirements.
Floridas legal medical marijuana business is expected to generate about $456 million in sales in 2018, according to a study from Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics. That meant roughly 2,800 jobs at the end of 2017. By 2022, Floridas marijuana employment is expected to grow almost tenfold to about 25,000 jobs, the research group said.
Those estimates would put Floridas marijuana employment behind only California and Colorado, states that have legalized full recreational marijuana use....

You can say the same thing about opium and all of its derivatives. Whats your point?
There is no legitimate medicinal value in grass. Zero.its just dope. It never cured a thing. And it is illegal as hell under federal law!!
You may very well be correct about the cure aspect of MJ but you would be dead wrong about it’s medical use.
One of my friends son who is 21 suffers from terrible seizures, so bad in fact that last year when he came up for vacation he had an attack that put him out of commission for 3 days. Now when he comes up to visit it is made sure he has dabs(dirivitive of MJ) waiting for him just like he has in Florida.
I believe his life would be hell without the dabs.
48 hours of severe vomiting is nasty. And the user is tempted to try stronger stuff down a slippery slope.
Life needs to come from a higher source. God gives love and mercy to all who humbly ask and with repentance - freedom from enslavement from such as this.
Why is it that medical pot does get subjected to the same FDA clinical trials that all other medical drugs are forced to? If medical pot has any real value it should be able to be proved scientifically. That include the side affects and potential risks, just like any other medicines. When something like this somehow escapes proper scientific scrutiny there is something else afoot.
I have a friend that I just found out got on a medical pot program. The specific chemicals were extracted from the pot and they are inhaled via a vape type device. She claims it works to control pain, just like the many other treatments that she tried at first. I will wait and see if it does in the long run. I suspect not for the simple reason that if a pain killer hides the pain, you are more likely to damage the injury area worse until that injured area can’t be repaired. Pain is a warning that something is wrong. Masking it doesn’t really cure it.
Hundreds of studies have established the medical properties of cannabinoids.
The answer? Don't.
Big freaking deal.
This underscores the lack of safety and lack of acceptability of pot
Do brewers and distillers fire alcoholics? Does that underscore the lack of safety and lack of acceptability of alcohol?
Under the same rigor as the FDA that a pharmaceutical company is required to do? That is the standard for releasing a drug. If it’s not the standard for medical pot, then why? It seems that certain extracts have been approved but pot itself has not been.
This is from the FDA website.
2. Why hasnt the FDA approved marijuana for medical uses?
A. To date, the FDA has not approved a marketing application for marijuana for any indication. The FDA generally evaluates research conducted by manufacturers and other scientific investigators. Our role, as laid out in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act, is to review data submitted to the FDA in an application for approval to assure that the drug product meets the statutory standards for approval.
The FDA has approved Epidiolex, which contains a purified drug substance cannabidiol, one of more than 80 active chemicals in marijuana, for the treatment of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or Dravet syndrome in patients 2 years of age and older. That means the FDA has concluded that this particular drug product is safe and effective for its intended indication.
The agency also has approved Marinol and Syndros for therapeutic uses in the United States, including for the treatment of anorexia associated with weight loss in AIDS patients. Marinol and Syndros include the active ingredient dronabinol, a synthetic delta-9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is considered the psychoactive component of marijuana. Another FDA-approved drug, Cesamet, contains the active ingredient nabilone, which has a chemical structure similar to THC and is synthetically derived.
Most drugs do not cure anything.
Novocain has never cured anything -- but try dental work without it.
The Prevacid I take for reflux doesn't cure it -- it keeps it under control one day at a time.
I do not partake of the MJ, but if the requirement to be a legitimate drug was that it cured something, more than half of the drugs we have today would be forbidden.
My sister and my stoner cousin have posted articles on FaceBook saying marijuana cures all forms of cancer. It’s on FaceBook. It has to be true
I talked with a former gang member recently about drugs.
1) credit to buy drugs is given if you have a job. No job, no credit, you buy with cash. Where does someone without credit get cash.
2) If you are a drug dealer and you use, you are out immediately and they know pretty fast. This is one thing the movies got right.
3) What do the drug dealers do with the large amounts of cash?
a) they launder it. Can you think a better way to launder your money than the legal weed business
b) They use their cash to buy influence and respect in the community. Time for all of us to review the GodFather.
Scarface would be more instructive.
Guess its kinda like not wanting the ole Fox to guard the hen house.
I saw or heard something way back where these handlers or processors or what ever they are called wear gloves and the gloves get loaded with resin that when scraped off can be/is worth big bucks.
Sounds like a bees pollen bags
Dont want stoners skimming the cream off the top suppose.
Also- the number of homeless in Denver has exploded.
Yes. Where is the FDA report?? What this is about is a step toward legalization of this narcotic to further dumb down the population so it can be further politically manipulated by the Dazi party ( the democrat socialist regime) .
Let me tell you this “medical marijuana “ shtick is just bull crap. It is a gateway for legalization but that WILL NEVER happen. No politician wants to stand for dope!!
He can get bombed on cheap scotch. Pain disappear , I understand, on 3 shots of whiskey. Seizures are NOT controlled with pot. Seizure control meds are numerous. Tell him to go to a Doctor and get one.
Riiiight....wink wink
Do you think that a politician controls our view of dope. We actually do our own thinking.

Are you advocating use of a non approved drug? Is that legal?
