I’m told that the difference between a German Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois is that where a GSD will run and catch you a Malinois will literally fly through the air and take you down.
A Malinois is smaller but much higher energy than a GSD, and not suitable as a pet.
I have some grandchildren that would disagree with a Mal not being suitable as a pet. Mine loves kids, and mine is as tough a protection dog as you’ll find, she’ll consistently draw blood through a police/military sleeve, has three littermates in the military, two are police dogs, one is in a prison in Ky or Tn, I forget which. She also when playing can hit 40 mph and clear my wife’s head at a run (5’3) and at 78 pounds you can see her ribs. She is 7 years old, and dead safe with kids over 3.
A good protection dog is social with people until instructed otherwise. The really good bred ones are good with people, dogs that are afraid/not confident are the ones to watch as they bite from fear. The dogs that are slinking away while barking are the ones to watch, they are fear biters, the confident, social dogs bite when they are supposed to, as a rule.
A Mal will fly and take you down at speed however, been there and done that!
