The first problem is to get the student interested enough to listen, the most ancient problem in education.

As it is said in education are you the sage on the stage or the guide on the side

Self paced learning is part of the answer and ,making it engaging not rote based and monotonous. People learn in different ways, called multiple intelligences. Remember the Charlie brown cartoon where his teacher talks to him and all he hears is wah wah wah.

Education is under huge pressure to change from, the Dewey Prussian model to one allowing for self propulsion at your won rate more so than chronological grouping. Education today smacks more of indoctrination than education, and even in the Universities and colleges the heat is on for change and new effective methods
