From what I remember when Trump started hinting he might fire Granny Sessions, Granny's former Senate colleagues told Trump they would never confirm a replacement and might even use it as grounds for impeachment.

Trump is supposedly the king of dealsmakers right? So surely he could get his own party to confirm a replacement if he wished. If he wasn’t able to do that then he looks weak and impotent.

Maybe it’s all an act and he is actually OK with Sessions playing straight man and not being political. 3D chess and all that. Maybe he gives up on getting his political enemies in exchange for getting more of his agenda through. After all Trump would have bigger political problems than getting an AG confirmed if his AG were to go after Hillary and others.
