The villagers make chocolate covered soybeans which are sold in a gift shop at the DMZ. I bought some, along with North Korean currency and a few other souvenirs when I visited.
When we entered the JSA, we saw a chart of annual North Korean attacks or attempts on the south, hundreds per year. I wonder what the chart looks like now, almost two years later.
Down the road from there, not far, at Oddusan Observatory, during the appeasement “Sunshine Policy” of Ro Mu Hyon administration (like the current one in Seoul is turning out to be) on the observation deck they even had a connected museum showing “life in North Korea”, including even pro Pyongyang propaganda if you can believe it, and a sugar-coated recreation of a North Korean classroom, etc etc. All touchy-feely crap. It would make you want to vomit. It is probably back up now after a few years of the Lee Myung Bak and Pak Gyeun Hye conservative, anti communist presidencies.
