read that global population has hit a plateau and will not continue to rise.Not so. It's like the difference between the federal deficit and the federal debt - birth rate is no longer increasing, but population will continue to grow until the death rate catches up to the birth rate.

birth rate is no longer increasing, but population will continue to grow until the death rate catches up to the birth rate. It does get confusing when talking about 'rates' vs real actual numbers. A rate of 10% of 100 is of course 10 but maybe the actual number is 200.
