I think a presidential candidate must be native born. My father, a Foreign Service officer, told me when I was young that I could not run for president because I wasn’t born in the States. He said I was a natural born American — both parents American — but not native born.
The Constitution says natural born citizen.
That status requires jus soli (the soil) and jus sanguine (blood). Born here of citizen parents.
