Wikipedia is not a good resource for a lot of controversial and political topics because it is used in a partisan way. However, may of their articles on noncontroversial history, biography, geography, literature, and science are OK.
I agree with you. I use it a lot. Like you say the political stuff is usually biased like WaPo and the New York Times but it is fairly good on non political items.

True - Wiki is a good source on mundane subjects but don’t expect accurate information on anything controversial.
For anything remotely political including scientific and historical subjects, Wikipedia is totally unreliable. If you want information on neutral topics like the African Dung Beetle, then its OK.
