Ryan came from a family that owned or owns a successful manufacturing company. They are a natural fit for the COC mentality. There really is a class element at work. The well off and the so-called educated elites (think tank whores, academicians, lobbyist crap-weasels) all feel they are far more intelligent and worthy of running the country than ‘ignorant’ middle , lower middle class, and working class Americans.
