Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5 reads (in part):
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution
Jackson was a US citizen in 1789, when the Constitution was adopted.
None of the founding fathers were natural born citizens. They couldn't be since they were born before the country existed.
That part after the comma, “or a citizen at the time of this Constitution”, grandfathered in all the early Presidents because they knew that there could not be any natural born citizen of the USA for at least 35 years.
Jefferson’s mother was born in England, but her father was a Virginia planter born in Henrico County, VA.
