Havent been following the union case closely, but cannot find an answer to a question I have.
This may be a question for the attorneys here.
At my workplace union dues or a service fee is applied to workers. Both are the same amount. They have to pay for one or the other. The worker decides which one.
My question is does this ruling mean that workers can opt out and not pay a service fee or union dues?
Janus v. AFSCME says that if you're a non-union member, the union cannot force you to pay dues or a fee.
If you're a union member, you must still pay dues.
I am not a lawyer, I just play one on TV. I am pretty sure that it means workers can opt out. I believe that is what happened in Wisconsin.
