If it was number one, then he'd be pleased that he's sufficiently annoying and annoying enough people so that it provoked a reaction, and it gives him the appearance of being morally superior. Anyone who wants to take away my rights is NEVER morally superior; they are the scum of the earth and lower than cockroaches.
If it is number two, then he gets more attention and gets to claim the same thing as if it were actually done by a person who is fed up with him. Personally I favor explanation number 2. It reminds me of the phony outrage of blacks who spray racist slogans on their own property and then claim to be victims.
