They think that little lie is going to keep them out of jail... you see they weren’t trying spy on Trump, they were just investigating everyone that Trump ever spoke with, especially the Russians... and if they happened to pick up a conversation of Trumps here or there... well that was surely not their intent...
Once you realize they paid for the original dossier, their story falls apart like a wet newspaper.
