If I hear one more freeper “yeah but war hero” McCain’s legacy . . .
Getting captured doesn’t make you a hero. Getting tortured doesn’t make you a hero. Heroes get tortured, and assholes get tortured. McCain is not a hero.
Getting shot down while apparently ignoring guidance to avoid just that sort of thing happening...
All records of his flying seem to indicate a rather sub-standard aviator. How many aircraft did he lose?
If his father was not an admiral, he would have gone nowhere, much like Øbozo being a negro granted him access he was not entitled to..
Of course there is that thing with him collaborating with the NVA that keeps popping up. The stress of captivity not withstanding, the way that issue keeps getting ignored is bogus.
Dont forget the arrogant prick was implicated in starting the fire that raged on the USS Forestal.

I totally agree. It has been many years since I admired John McCain. Back then, I accepted the media line about him, then I read about what he did to his first wife to be able to marry the extremely wealthy Cindy. That told me all I needed to know about McCain.
That is the most accurate & succinct description of the situation I've read.
Heroism is CHOOSING to do the right thing when doing so will cost you greatly. Heroism requires three things:
A choice
The correct choice for the GOOD
Extreme risk of personal loss
John McCain suffered greatly when shot down and during his imprisonment. For that, he has my sympathy. After that, he had no choices except trying to retain his honor until release. The jury is still out on that.
His treatment, after being released from prison, of his first wife and children was despicable and indicative of a man who chooses for personal gain, not for the good. The antithesis of heroism.
Many of his choices and public stands as a US Senator can be characterized as "strange", "wrong" or "evil", take your pick. IOW, non-heroic.
Regardless of his history, he has only a short time left to ensure that he has made things right with his Maker. Once he has done that, he might want to begin dealing with those he has wronged.
