I’ve noticed that as well. I rarely see Black or Hispanic men on corners begging for money. Usually about 80% white men, 20% white women. I have never seen an Asian asking for money.

Used to be a lot of blacks panhandling in St. Louis- often they targeted old people and women and would puff up and demand a dollar rather than use the plea for sympathy. The Operation Brightside guy used to shame the pushy ones, offer them work, but he knew they wouldn’t take it. He said at the time [the 90s] they made on average $80 a day tax-free and could pick their hours and days, had no boss and no annoying coworkers- and never any paperwork. It was hard for a jobs program to compete with what they could get with little effort.

Here in FL it’s whites and hispanics. They deploy the dog prop a lot, they’re not pushy, they know a sucker or several will come along for every person who ignores them.

Used to be a couple that worked an off ramp on 75 where there was a Cracker Barrel... one would hold the sign while the other lounged around, then they would switch. They had an expensive van that they parked discretely some distance away... probably had a nice paid off house somewhere in the area, just not close enough that the neighbors would recognize them.

Here we have all colors. I was approached the other day by a pregnant Asian gal and her friend in the Target parking lot. Instead of standing on street corners they ‘work’ parking lots here. Walmart, Target, gas stations. They walk right up to you and ask for money for some reason or another. All colors do it.
