According to Lurking Libertarian, that’s exactly what they can do. LL is saying that there was a case in New York several years ago held that it was legal for a landlord to refuse to rent to lawyers.
Unfortunately, I don't. I remember reading about the case when it was decided-- it made the front page of the New York Law Journal-- but I can't find it on Google.
