An interesting thing about Mars is that it's lop-sided. A huge asteroid hit one side creating the Hellas Basin, and caused the other side to bulge in the Tharsis region, where there are also giant volcanoes. The movie "Mission to Mars" sort of explains this as the reason Mars went dead, although it was most likely just the loss of its magnetic field.
