If you are stating that 7.62x51 NATO can be fired in an AK47, you are plainly wrong, nor will 7.62x39 fire in any 762 NATO weapon. They are so different in every dimension that the NATO round won’t come close to chambering in the AK, and the Russian round simply is swallowed in the NATO chamber.

NATO ammunition captured in the field could be used in the AK-47
No, it cant be.
L
but Im skeptical as to the ability of any standard combat round like 5.56 Nato or 7.62X39 to be reliably accurate at even 400 yards.
Back in Basic at MCRD I was required to hit a target 500 yards away with a rack grade M-16A1 using only iron sights. No optics.

I think stories like that might get started, when someone writes about using pulled .308 NATO bullets for reloading 7.62x39 ammunition, and it gets misinterpreted. I remember similar stories from years ago ("Jap rifles could shoot British .303 ammo, but not vice versa" ;^), that probably started the same way...
POTATOE FARMER!
THAT’S Funny!
Wasn’t it designed by one?
Weapon of choice for Hezbollah. It’s on their flag.
Funny thing My Russian rifles are chambered for .308 Winchester, well that’s odd enough, but you can shoot Nato .308b in them all day long, Now here is the rub.... I have Nato .308 rifles that I would never put .308
Winchester in
The .308 Winchester round runs at higher pressures,
Yup the civilian stuff is MORE powerful than the military grade stuff
With 5.56x49 and .223 its the other way around.
Both ammos will work but the military stuff runs at a higher pressure.
Sometimes I think they try to keep things confusing, but the legacy of the Kalishnakov is its simplicity
I like the Makarov pistol too, SO simple... So effective, So accurate! the KGB used it for 64 years!
I carry a S&W MP shield now, but the Makarov is a good pistol
I'm sure weve all heard about how reliable and not inaccurate they are, but just how true is this? Theres been a plethora of AKs that hadvent been cleaned in 10 years and its they still shoots just fine. I wanted to see just how accurate these rifles truly were are and exactly what they can withstand.
Accuracy(:) The AK-47 is not the most accurate weapon when compared to other assault rifles, such as the M4(AR-15). The accuracy of the AK usually when taken out of the box is usually steady at a 4 inch group. Though over time, changes in its accuracy begin to spread out to 5.8 inch groups at 100 yards. This is more than likely due to poor maintenance. When cCompared to the accuracy of the M4, which can easily hold a 3 inch group at 100 yards.
The reason for the AKs lack of accuracy is due to its functioning and projectile(')s ballistic coefficient. The AK-47 is made up of only a few moving parts. There are fewer parts, and these parts are made up of large chunks of metal. Take the bolt for example(.) oOnce fired. (,) Tthe hunk of metal that unlocks and flies back once fired is pretty heavy when compared to the M4.
As it rides the railing and slams to the back, the weapon(')s harmonics are disturbed significantly,(.) tTake a look at a few videos of the AK-47 being fired in slow motion and see observe the amount of barrel whip. Read the rest...
Grade = "F" Please re-write and re-submit before the next class session.
These articles from AM journal are so poorly written they are almost unreadable. They also tend to be about as accurate as a Egyptian AK-47.
In Russian terminology, the AK is an avtomat - a type of automatic rifle but of an intermediate caliber, combining the functions of the sub machine gun (pistol machine gun in Russian terminology) and an intermediate caliber carbine.
Its meant for relatively short-range engagements and relatively high rates of fire to overwhelm adversaries much the same as the German StG-44/MP44.
Its philosophy of design is directed towards the average conscript and parallels our armys hit probability model vs the aimed fire over maximum engagement ranges model that more highly talented and trained troops are able to employ.
I probably owe my life to the to whom it may concern nature of AK fire.
A Maadi?
Yep. I had a friend call me one day to go shooting. He wanted me try an AK he just bought because he thought there was something wrong with it. It was almost new, perfectly clean, and in excellent working order. Problem? It would not keep a 10” group at 100 yards. I told him the only thing wrong with it was where it was made.
He later bought either a Bulgarian or Romanian AK, I can’t remember witch, and immediately called to tell me I was right!
Compact spray an pray LOL
But the things are not that inaccurate, and are world reknowned for not failing like that Eugene Stoner thing.
My AR jammed and it was a doozy of a jam, Smokingfrog had a look at it and said when was the last time you cleaned this thing?
I said “couple thousand rounds ago, I was conducting a reliability test”
Happy with that AR but that was a ***** to clear
Im going to guess that youve never been a Marine. We qualify with the rifle at 200, 300, and 500m at a 12 inch bullseye every year. When my troops got the M16A2, our average scores went up to over 230 out of 250.
You need more practice.
Same here, having a full company come under a dug in battalion of NVA fire and having to run over 200 yards of open rice paddy to the only depression available for cover showed thankfully how inaccurate rock n roll fire can be. Didn't lose any guys in the runup, but definitely learned how fast I could run under full battle rattle with a prc25 strapped on in a zig zag. Adrenalin is a wonderful thing.
My latest AK build is a polish Tantal that I upgraded to a Beyrl configuration with a Vortex strikefire on the top rail
Only thing I don’t like is the barrel aint chrome lined
Youre lucky that happened to you while you were just here having fun.
It happened to us a lot in combat 51 years ago and many young men of ours died because their rifles failed them.
