The Chinese government wants to polish its terribly tarnished image and one of the tactics it has been using is to influence the education of American college students.
Since 2004, the Chinese have been sponsoring Confucius Institutes at colleges and universities around the world that are willing to host them. A Chinese government agency pays for most if not all of the cost of the programs that cover Chinese language, culture and history. Since many students want to learn about China, that seems like a good deal that saves the school money. Read more....

It’s fine to learn about China, but if China does the teaching expect lots of propaganda.

Interesting that the Red Chinese are embracing Confucius. Usually Communists have to jettison their cultural traditions, and any ancient heroes do can’t be remolded as proto-communists. Confucius is fine for natural virtue and being generally a decent repository for wisdom (though not a true philosopher). He certainly isn’t the Little Red Book.
When Red China comes out of the darkness, the great Chinese cultural heritage will certainly be part of it. Sad that western Universities are acting more like Communists than the Communists are.

About 45m, but very worthwhile.
Chinese government’s Confucius is better than American college progressivism.
“Thou art the Lord,
And all beings are thy servants, Thy domain;
And through those who serve idiols vain
Thine honor is not detracted from,
For they all aim to Thee to come.” Solomon Gabirol, 11th century
More and more it seems that China is reverting to it’s totalitarian roots.
Confucius appeals to the authoritarian character of every government they’ve ever created. Take away the ideological window dressing and that’s all there is to communism.
We need teachers and professors who love our country teaching our history and our values to students of the next generation and running our education system.
We need Chinese expats and Chinese-Americans — especially Christians who love this country, who love theirs, and see the damage Communism hath wrought — infiltrating China’s institutions. And putting their country on the path to freedom.
Freedom begins in the mind. Actually, in the soul.
