“...Pretty sure the M1 is Canadian......”
Pretty damn sure it ISN’T.
John Cantius Garand was born in Canada originally, yes. But he was an American citizen and gave the Garand as his “gift to America” (his words).
We used it through WWII, Korea, and some even saw action early in Vietnam.
So, it is in fact an AMERICAN rifle.
But Canucks liked it too. :^)
“...I assaulted it up with a synthetic black stock...”
That’s... that’s just... blasphemous!!!! Hahah!
The M1 Carbine is a BEAUTIFUL li’l puppy in it’s wood and steel skin...
Seriously, though.. I’ll get an M1 Carbine one of these days for the collection. They’re great shooters.
The AR is a decent rifle, shoots well, accurate, and even if a bit more complicated than an AK, it’s a proven platform. I enjoy shooting it. Wife does too, she appreciates the lightweight handling and ease of use.
The M1 Garand, on the other hand, is a bit heavy for her. I love the beast, though. That .30-06 (7.62x63mm) round is just an awesome reach-out-touch machine.
I also enjoy the M1A; another fine American rifle.
