Back in 2013 when Google killed Google Reader and pissed off the internets outspoken batch of journalists, a bunch of alternatives launched to try and save RSS. Feedly was (and likely still is) the most popular, but others were there to try and steal some of the spotlight, like Digg Reader. If you were one of those who passed on Feedly for Digg, I have bad news for you Digg Reader has shut down.
Digg announced that the end was near a couple of weeks ago, and boy, time sure does fly. They are sending emails today to confirm the death, but accessing the Digg Reader site has stopped today as well.
If you were using Digg Reader, you can still download you feeds, Diggs, and saves by heading to digg.com/settings.
We are shutting down Digg Reader today. We would like to thank our community for using Reader for the past five years. It’s been fun... We love you.
Been using Feedly since the demise of Google Reader and have been consistently happy with my decision. Didn’t even know Digg had a RSS aggregator.
Simplicity was its strong point. Easy to css style.
Ive no idea what rss is, or digg.
I enable RSS feed but nothing happens and it has no effect on my internet experience.
RSS
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Subscribing to a website RSS removes the need for the user to manually check the website for new content. Instead, their browser constantly monitors the site and informs the user of any updates. The browser can also be commanded to automatically download the new data for the user.
RSS feed data is presented to users using software called a news aggregator. This aggregator can be built into a website, installed on a desktop computer, or installed on a mobile device. Users subscribe to feeds either by entering a feed's URI into the reader or by clicking on the browser's feed icon. The RSS reader checks the user's feeds regularly for new information and can automatically download it, if that function is enabled. The reader also provides a user interface.
I’m pretty happy with Feedly too. This reminds me though, that I should probably export the list of blogs I read via RSS...
Thanks, ausgezeichnet! Much appreciated! Vielen Dank!
