Ever wonder why the people who consider Imperialism to be the worst thing in the world are working so hard to create an empire of their own? This isn't a new governmental model even in scale - it's the same dream of Alexander, and of Genghis Khan. Common to their pursuit of it is coercion, not persuasion.

It's pretty outdated, in short. What we have seen with the advent of "transhuman" technologies such as the Internet is not a model of centralization, it's a model of decentralization, redundancy, and chaos, a truer reflection of real human cognition than any centralized model. They'll need a new human to make up their fantasy world, and the New Soviet Man or the Aryan Master never did actually materialize in the real world. In retrospect, they were pretty nasty dreams as well.

Of course present-day America is the enemy. It won't be ruled and so it has to be destroyed. The notion of an entire world that won't be ruled hasn't percolated into the thick skulls of the Deep Thinkers yet. Which is why they don't really worry me all that much.
