Correct me if Im wrong, but Im pretty sure it wasnt the French who added that to the base of the Statue of Liberty. And meanwhile, immigrants who came to America back then, didnt live off the other hard working people of this country. They picked themselves up by their bootstraps and made what they could of themselves. That isnt the ambition of the illegals flooding (and who HAVE ALREADY FLOODED) into out country these days.
