That isn't exactly right. The rite of "major exorcism" is an exorcism of a person. But there are prayers of "minor exorcism" to drive demonic influence from things and places, and there are also just blessings of things (houses among them) which aren't clearly exorcistic in nature.

The pre-Vatican II "Rituale Romanum" (book containing exorcisms and other blessing rites) contains an exorcism of persons (that's the "major exorcism") and an "exorcism of Satan and the fallen angels," which is used to expel demonic influence from a community or locality.

Having said that, I'm not seeing from the story that this was a Catholic ritual.

That is not true. Any exorcism in the Catholic Church, be it a minor exorcism or a sacramental exorcism, is for individuals. It is never applied to places or property. There is a Catholic blessing appropriate for moving into a new house but the purpose for that is to thank God for the gift of the new dwelling and ask that He watch over those who live there. It is not meant to drive out evil spirits or curses or anything like that. Mrs. Trump is a lifelong Catholic. She would know that.
