When my dad dragged us to the Ozarks kicking and screaming back in 1956 we never saw any deer here as we had out in the Rocky Mountains. It was fifteen years before I saw two does very early one morning.
Then about 1975, a new company moved into the area and bought up lots of land for a power plant, and posted it against poachers. Soon we began to see deer, then more deer, now lots of deer. Now we have so many that the “Chronic Wasting disease” is beginning to spread in the area. It is now legal to shoot up to five deer in our area.

Do you live in Boone, Baxter or Marion counties? I did some research and the CWD was thought to have been brought in with the reintroduction of the Elk in the Buffalo River NP and also by a prominent business owner in Flippin. I noticed the deer in Rea Valley are small and in large herds.
