Indie movies are dying. They can’t compete with cable/streaming TV shows anymore.

As I recall the history, the golden age of Hollywood came when Hollywood was heavily influenced by European immigrants to came to America to avoid the oppression they faced in Europe. They were so grateful that they made the movies they made, which essentially celebrated their new home.

But, eventually they were replaced by people who have no gratitude, or even any sense of how their industry got to where it was. So they make self-indulgent CGI cartoon remakes and wonder why lightning does not strike again. Sad.

Sundance
All the above

I knew Sundance was knee deep in the mire when they showed this film in 2007 called Zoo. Zoo, directed by Robinson Devor was a documentary on bestiality aka sex with animals.

And then there was last years entry called “Raw” about cannibalism. I think I’ll pass on seeing either film.

I browsed the U-Verse On Demand movie list and scrolled thru dozens of Hollywood movies. And scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled through mindless dreck.

Finally, i took a preview look at one and the rental price was $8.

Hell no! They would have to pay ME $80.00 just to sit and watch their crap. Hollywood is a dead-but-still-thrashing-about dinosaur whose tiny brain hasn’t gotten the message yet.

Even just five years ago ‘Redbox’ had movies, now it looks like a kiddies box of cartoon movies and special effects junk. The 84 IQing of America has succeeded.

Books Please: A pile of wretched films churned out by the joyless, soybean estrogen, iPhone-poking, SJW Participation Trophy generation that has never seen the inside of a library or cracked a book that doesn’t have a boy wizard on the cover, and you wonder why it’s dying? lol

and there it is...

Remember when women in movies didn’t hate men even while they try to BE men?

Those were the days.

the comments on the Variety article

The comments are spot-on, pithy and hilarious. The COMMENTERS should be penning these articles, not the stupid, starstruck writers.

I think ‘circle jerk’ is the best descriptor of events like the Sundance festival.

Boring liberal elites pushing the same crap they've been pushing for 60 years... same films, same hero's, same villains and always a pass for puffed up stupid liberal elites and their pet victim groups.

Hey here's an 'edgy' film - stupid bad white men, spiritual native Americans and Blacks, children smarter than their parents, high IQ angry woman showing up everyone, and even smarted 17 year old girls... with liberal elite boyfriends (sexy winners). Yep, we've seen it. Pervert college professors smarter and more loving than parents etc etc etc... and one more - the family dog smarter than all...

Almost the exact opposite of the real world...

From South Park:

Robert Redford: This is perfect. Why didn’t we think of it sooner? This town still has some charm left, not the mess we turned Park City into.

Phyllis: Forgive me for being observant, but, won’t we just end up doing the same thing to this town?

Robert Redford: Yes. And the town after, and the town after that. Like termites, we will move this film festival from town to town until we have used it up. And then move on, until every quiet mountain town is like Los Angeles.

Phyllis: Why? Why would we do such a thing?

Robert Redford: Because we have to live in L.A. And if we can’t live in quiet, simple, peaceful mountain towns, then nobody will! [Laughs maniacally] Waitwaitwait. Zoom in to a close-up of my face when I do that. Ready. Then NOBODY will! [the camera moves in as he laughs maniacally again] That’s it.

No real comment, I just wanted to read that again.
